A four-year member of both the football and wrestling teams, Mamunes also competed in track and field and baseball, lettering in 10 varsity seasons during his Marianapolis career. On the wrestling mat, he steadily rose to become a WNEISWA heavyweight champion as a senior after previously earning state recognition throughout his career. A four-year captain, he exemplified toughness, perseverance, and leadership, while also anchoring the football team’s offensive line. Beyond athletics, Mamunes served as Student Council Vice President and dorm prefect, reflecting his commitment to the Marianapolis community. A standout in cross country, track and field, and basketball, Portelance achieved remarkable success across every competition he entered. As a co-captain of the cross country team, he went undefeated as a senior while consistently setting course records, and in track and field remained unbeaten in events including the mile, half mile, quarter mile, and javelin during his junior and senior years. On the basketball court, he averaged 27 points per game, establishing himself among the top scorers of his era. Following Marianapolis, Portelance served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War while competing on its worldwide basketball travel team. He later dedicated his career to education, counseling, coaching, and mentorship, impacting generations of student-athletes through leadership and service.

Marianapolis Preparatory School is proud to honor Kevin Goudreau ’83, with induction into its Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his historic accomplishments and lasting contributions to Marianapolis athletics. A standout basketball player and team captain, Goudreau became the first player in Marianapolis men’s varsity basketball history to score 1,000 career points, achieving the milestone before the introduction of the three-point line. He led the Golden Knights to Connecticut State and Quinebaug Valley Conference tournament appearances while earning First Team All-State honors and recognition as one of the top scorers in Northeastern Connecticut. In addition to basketball, Goudreau excelled in baseball and later continued his athletic success at Anna Maria College, where he led all of Division III in batting average during the 1987 season. He later returned to Marianapolis as women’s varsity basketball coach, helping guide the program to one of the most successful seasons in school history while continuing a distinguished professional and community leadership career.

She helped lead Marianapolis to multiple conference championships and set numerous program records, including single-game marks for points and assists. Equally accomplished off the court, Quintal-Hill was a National Honor Society member, class president, and recipient of the Marianapolis Medal, recognizing excellence in academics, athletics, and character. Following a Hall of Fame collegiate career at Connecticut College, in which she was a Division III All-American and 1,000-point scorer, she built a successful career in the insurance industry while remaining deeply committed to mentorship, community leadership, and charitable service.

She continued her basketball career at Trinity College before graduating summa cum laude from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Today, Dr. Sheridan specializes in pediatric care and assistive technology while continuing to serve her community through research, adaptive sports, and coaching.

A two-time team captain, Summiel surpassed both the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound milestones while leading Marianapolis to four NEPSAC Tournament appearances, including two NEPSAC Class A Championships and three consecutive championship game appearances. Her outstanding play earned her NEPSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors, multiple First Team All-Conference selections, and statewide recognition as one of Connecticut’s top players. Beyond basketball, Summiel excelled in volleyball and track and field, where she became a NEPTSA champion and school record holder in the shot put. She continued her athletic and academic career at Wake Forest University and later Virginia Tech before beginning a professional career in the NBA with the Utah Jazz.

Since joining the faculty in 1990 as a mathematics teacher, Karen has served the school in countless roles, including advisor, coach, dean, and senior administrator, helping shape generations of students through her dedication and compassion. Throughout her distinguished career, she led transformative academic initiatives, expanded Advanced Placement offerings, and championed innovative, student-centered learning programs that continue to define the Marianapolis experience. Karen also played a pivotal role as one of the six founding members of the Trinity Foundation, helping guide the successful establishment of the school’s new foundation during a critical moment in its history. Her leadership, collaboration, and unwavering commitment helped secure a strong future for Marianapolis.
